RAMSEY RODEO
CHAMPIONS
Ramsey Winch is a proud sponsor of professional rodeo. In 1996, Ramsey began an ad campaign featuring great rodeo stars of the past, present, and future. Every year, the full page, full-color ad is placed in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Souvenir Programs and the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) Program. Each ad in this six-year campaign is now available on our website in electronic Adobe PDF format and may be downloaded by clicking the icon at the bottom of each profile. If you would like an expanded JPEG version simply click on the image to the right of each profile.
JIM SHOULDERS
Ramsey Winch chose the legendary Jim Shoulders to begin the Ramsey rodeo ad campaign in 1996. Shoulders, the son of a Tulsa auto mechanic, went on to win 16 world champion titles in the professional rodeo circuit of the 1950's, including an unprecedented five all-around titles. Many rodeo observers say his seven bull-riding and four bareback championships will never be matched. Shoulders retired to his family's Henryetta ranch at the peak of a highly successful career. He went on to raise rodeo stock, including some of the top-ranked bucking bulls in rodeo history. Shoulders is a charter member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame, Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, and remains the only cowboy ever inducted into the Madison Square Garden Hall of Fame.
TERRY DON WEST
Terry Don West, another Oklahoma rodeo legend, became the second spokesperson in the Ramsey rodeo ad campaign. West won the 1996 PRCA World Bull-Riding Championships after taking the '95 Reserve World Champion Bull-Rider title and second overall in the '95 National Finals Rodeo. He continues to compete successfully in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Bud Light Cup Tours, tying the record for most consecutive rides (15) in 1998. Raised on a dairy farm, West began his riding career when he climbed on a dairy calf at age four. He entered his first rodeo at age seven and worked his way up to bull-riding by the time he was fifteen. Despite numerous injuries, including a broken jaw, crushed face and torn groin, he still braves the toughest bulls and holds his own against them. West lives with his wife Michelle and son Trey in Henryetta, where he conducts bull-riding schools every year at his home.
BRITT BOCKIUSCHARLES POGUE Team ropers Britt Bockius and Charles Pogue appeared in Ramsey's third ad of the rodeo campaign. Two Oklahoma natives, these partners have been strong contenders in the pro rodeo circuit since they joined together. They tied for second/third in the 1997 National Finals Rodeo world championship, and took second in both the '98 and '99 NRF world championships. Bockius, a resident of Claremore, Oklahoma, has been a member of the PRCA since 1992. Pogue, a resident of Ringling, Oklahoma, has been a member of the PRCA since 1987.
DAN MORTENSEN
Montana native Dan Mortensen was featured in the 1999-2000 Ramsey rodeo ad. Mortensen, who took the All-Around Cowboy World Championship crown from reigning champion Joe Beaver in 1997, is also a five-time NFR world saddle bronc winner, holding the '93, '94, '95, '97, and '98 titles. Mortensen, who hadn't ridden bulls in almost a decade, climbed on several bulls during the summer of 1997 in order to have a shot at the all-around title. Mortensen was born in Billings, Montana and received his B.S. in Agri-business from Montana State University. He currently resides with his wife Kay, in Manhattan, Montana, where he enjoys outdoor activities and woodworking.
SHERRY CERVI
Two-time world barrel-racing champion Sherry Cervi was chosen for Ramsey's 2000- 2001 rodeo ad campaign. Cervi, born into a famous rodeo family, received her first World Championship in 1995 and again at her sixth consecutive National Finals Rodeo in 1999. The only member of the NFR top 15 to beat 14 seconds, she ran the three fastest times--13.93, 13.94 and 13.98. Cervi also received the 1997 Reserve World Champion, 1999 NFR Average Winner, and 1994-1998 Turquoise Circuit Champion titles, and holds the record for most money won by any contestant in both regular season and NFR competition.
Cervi gives credit for her latest championship and her success during the 1999 season to her bay gelding, Hawk (Jet Royal Speed). He was voted "Horse With The Most Heart for 1999" by the members of the NFR top 15. Cervi and her husband, PRCA team roper Mike, divide their time between residences in Midland, Texas and Tucson, Arizona.
