Roped Party

What can be better on a sunny Sunday than a nice little off road contest? The contestants who meet in the big wide quarry in Swabia come form all the neighboring countries, and they know each other quite well. They have been competitors in some of the great European off road races, like the Croatia Trophy.

The tracks in Swabia lead up and down the steep, nearly vertical hill. No way without a winch, no winching without an anchoring point. But there are no trees. Three competitors make up their minds, they declare themselves as a Ramsey Team. All of them have a Platinum 9500 winch on their vehicles. One is mounted on a black G wagon, coming from Austria where the G wagon is built. The second vehicle is a yellow Jeep from Vienna. The third partner is the purple "sort of Toyota" from Bavaria. Let's go mountaineering.

They are all experienced and know how to give it the gas. The first slope is taken without winching. Then, the sections begin to get steeper. The wire rope of the winch helps them up the hills. Next task is to get down to the water hole. The G wagon is lowered down with the help of the Toyota's winch. The navigators have no time to sit in their vehicles. The water hole is so muddy you can't see the bottom. That's no problem for the Tyrolian navigator - where did he learn to swim, in the Alps?

With the gray waterfall coming out of the winch's roller guide, the G wagon emerges from the water. He is the only one who can complete all three rounds. His team partners end up with their wire rope under the chassis: The front axle of the Jeep is tied up with the winch, and the drive shaft of the Toyota is bound together with a belt…No matter, these guys know how to fix it before the next race!

Werner Breitler, Austria in a Jeep
Henrik Strasser, Germany in his self-made Toyota based vehicle
All have Platinum 9500 Winches

The climb requires a little help from our Platinum 9500.

Let's work together and help each other.

We need an anchor point, so the Toyota helps the Gwagon.

The course starts out easy together them warmed up.

Sometimes you have to swim to get the job done.

Well Done.

Do you have an interesting story to tell which involves your Ramsey Winch? Let us know. Contact Lisa Holden at lisaholden@ramsey.com or 918-234-2138. Photos need to be included with your story, but they don't need to be action shots. They can be of your vehicle in your driveway. (of course we would like your Ramsey Winch in the pic.)
