Don't Go Into The Bush Without it....

Is the slogan in Australia. Without what? Yes, of course, a Ramsey winch is what you should have when going off road. I have a Platinum winch on my Mercedes G wagon, and I would miss it. But the slogan means something different. The manufacturer calls it a portable rescue tree ...

Every winch operator knows that trees have the fatal trend not to be where they are needed as a winch anchoring point. Same thing is true in Europe. This is why I imported a ground anchor from Australia. Naturally, we have no bush over here, but a lot of mud holes. My tires have a deep off road profile, but that can no longer be seen after rolling through heavy clay and the traction is gone.

Here come my friends with the ground anchor. To transport the anchor, it was folded into a handy size, same as a briefcase. A screw is unwound, and the parcel unfolds. The handle is put into place, and the anchor is ready. Similar to a spade, the sharp edge is pressed against the ground, when the winch hook is fixed to the anchor shackle and the winch starts to wind up its steel cable.

Like a plough, the ground anchor enters deep into the earth - but here is the essential difference: The ground anchor does not plough, it remains in place. My vehicle gross weight is more than two tons, my winch can lift a weight of four tons - no matter, the anchor does not move, even though I press my four wheeler's brakes, the heavy vehicle is drawn towards the anchor by means of the winch.

The job is completed when the bumper is over the shackle. Then the anchor is pulled out of the ground. Perfect! Let's go bush!

Do you have an interesting story to tell which involves your Ramsey Winch? Let us know. Contact Lisa Holden at lisaholden@ramsey.com or 918-234-2138. Photos need to be included with your story, but they don't need to be action shots. They can be of your vehicle in your driveway. (of course we would like your Ramsey Winch in the pic.)
