1. Determine the line pull required by the job. 2. Determine the size (diameter) and length of cable required. 3. Determine where the maximum load will occur (first layer of cable on the drum? Second? Third?) 4. Consult the performance data and find the combination of line pull and cable capacity per layer winch meets the requirements. 5. Select the proper winch model and determine the first layer rating required. (all performance data is based on first layer line pull ratings)
