How To Select Your Ramsey Low Mount Winch
1. Determine the line pull required. 2. Determine the size (diameter) and length of cable required. 3. Determine where the maximum line load will occur (first layer of cable on the drum? Second? Third?). 4. Select the proper winch model and determine the first layer rating required through the performance charts.
EXAMPLE: Customer "A" has a load that requires a 9,000 lb. Line pull and has selected 100 ft. (30.5 m) of 9/16" (14 mm) cable as the optimum length covering most of his use. His design requires a low mount winch.
Referring to the performance charts, he notes that 100 ft. of 9/16" (14 mm) cable will build up to four layers on a Model 700 winch* and that the winch provides 9,100 lbs. (4,120 kgs) maximum allowable line pull on the fourth layer.
Line speeds show on the performance charts are also based on the first layer. (First layer line speeds are the slowest of any layer.)
